These terms govern the use of the app Backprop Lab for Android, iPhone, iPad and Mac and of the simulator on these pages. If the app is obtained through Google Play, Google's terms apply in addition; if it is obtained through the App Store, Apple's standard licence agreement for apps applies in addition.
You receive a simple, non-exclusive right to use the app on your devices. The app is provided free of charge and contains neither advertising nor in-app purchases. There are no accounts and no registration.
Program, texts and graphics are protected by copyright, © 2026 Andreas Grauf. The source is not published.
The app's name and icon are not a permission to present a modified version as though it were this one.
Backprop Lab is meant for looking and trying out. It computes with very small networks on artificially generated points; the results are suited to learning from and not to justifying decisions outside that setting.
The same holds for the explanatory texts on these pages: they are written to the best of the author's knowledge but simplify deliberately and are no substitute for a textbook.
There is no entitlement to availability, to particular features or to future updates. Features may be added, changed or removed.
The app is provided without warranty of freedom from defects or fitness for a particular purpose. The provider's liability is limited to intent and gross negligence. For injury to life, body or health, and for claims under product liability law, statutory liability applies without limitation.
The app stores its data locally only and creates no backups. No liability is accepted for the loss of the stored settings — for example through uninstalling, clearing the app's storage, or changing devices. A running training is not saved in any case: it starts afresh on every launch.
The app collects no personal data and sends nothing to the provider. What is stored on the device is set out in the privacy policy.
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country of your habitual residence remain unaffected.
